Please go to the top of the column on the right to continue.
The screen below will appear. Click on the New Account button.
Fill in your favorite e-mail address and click on the Sent Test E-Mail button. You should get the e-mail shortly and are ready to go!
SQL Server has a built in e-mail interface. You just need to set it up to use it! I will be explaining how to do this using the SSMS. (SQL Server Management Studio) You start by opening SSMS. Please note that you must have full SQL for e-mail to be available.
Testing Your Setup
Right click on Database Mail to bring up the dialog on the right. Click on Send Test E-Mail. This will bring up the dialog on the far right.
Clicking on next wil bring up the screen below. On a side note, you are essentially setting up an e-mail account just like you would do in Outlook or Live Mail or your phone. It is a send only account so if you really mess this up, nothing bad will happen. <G>
SQL Server E-Mail Setup
Once in, click on the plus next to Management. Once this opens you will see Database Mail as shown below on the left. Click on that and you will likely get a message saying it must be enabled. Say yes and the dialog shown on the right below will appear.
The below box will appear. This is just typical e-mail setup stuff. Please note that you don't actually need to have any e-mail stuff outside of SQL Server for this to work.
If we're keeping it simple, check the public profile box and set the account as default. If you don't have a default account, you will need to explicitly specify one whenever you want something sent. Click on next to bring up the below.
Unless you have a special need to have bigger files or don't like the exclusions, click next to bring up the the final screen. Click on finish and you will get a confirmation that all is good.
Fill in the info and click on OK. This will take you back to the Add Account to Profile screen shown at the middle of the previous column. Select the mail account you created and click on OK. This will take you back to the New Profile screen shown slightly down in the column to the left with the account under the SMTP accounts. The Next button should be live. Click on it to bring up the screen below.
Select the top choice as shown and click on next. The screen below will appear. Fill in a profile name and click on the Add button.
